The time you’ll never get back is the precious time we are given to take care of matters we need to handle or to spend time with our loved ones. When I first started my career, the firm I started with always said “Use your upfront time.” What exactly does that mean?
Our upfront time, or the time we will never get back, is the down time you have at the job. During these 15-minute bathroom breaks in the depositions, you can look over the exhibits and get spellings of names and places. Before you begin your docket in the morning, you can use this time to add names of parties to your job dictionary. This is the precious time we are afforded during our day that can make editing the job on the back end so much faster.
I once had an attorney notice in a deposition that I worked during the breaks. He told me he appreciated it. Attorneys take notice of things that we don’t often realize.
Use your time wisely at depositions and while in court. Use the time you’ll never get back so that you can spend more precious time with the ones you love or doing what you love. Don’t let this time slip through your fingers. You will never get it back.
