Cyndi Tumlin RPR, CCR, President of the Alabama Court Reporters Association
2025 is well underway and filled with renewed optimism and enthusiasm. Thank you so much to those who attended ACRA’s 2025 Annual Conference. It is exhilarating to think how the tools and techniques discussed can positively impact our personal and professional lives. From the latest advancements in technology to methodologies that enhance our skills, we come away better equipped to tackle the challenges that lie ahead.
One of the highlights every year at conference is the opportunity to connect with fellow reporters, network, and build relationships. The camaraderie and support among peers always energizes. The Opening Reception, sponsored by Alabama Court Reporting, gives us the best opportunity to relax and celebrate being court reporters. The board had a fun time planning this conference and creating new ways to give back to the ACRA Membership. I hope everyone took the opportunity to have headshots, had some fun with the photobooth, the machine cleaning, the NexGen give-a-way, and enjoyed the t-shirt and swag bag this year – something cool and a little bonus positivity for the Win!
As we embrace 2025, it is essential to carry forward these connections and friendships. Let’s continue to engage and support one another sharing tips, techniques, and resources that can further enhance our skills and productivity. Whether you are an experienced court reporter or just starting in the field, knowledge shared and kindness extended will undoubtedly prove to be invaluable.
One of my favorite quotes from Maya Angelou was emphasized by one speaker and goes along with our theme — YDKWYDK, “You Don’t Know What You Don’t Know:
“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”
Maya Angelou’s wisdom resonates profoundly in both personal and professional growth. This quote emphasizes the importance of striving for excellence with the knowledge we have at any given moment. It reminds us that as we gain new insights and experiences, our responsibilities to ourselves and others also evolve. Continuously seeking improvement and embracing lifelong learning — so akin to the court reporting profession — uplifts ourselves, as well as those around us, as we navigate the challenges and opportunities of the new year. Offering help to a fellow reporter in kindness is always a good investment.
As we all know, court reporting in all its forms is ever-evolving. Knowledge is key. The future of court reporting in Alabama is bright! I am excited to see what 2025 has instore for all of us personally and professionally. Let us all take what we have learned and face the blessings and challenges head-on with optimism, enthusiasm, and strong commitment. We can make tremendous strides Together – always Together — and let’s continue to shine as the Gold Standard and Guardians of the Record.
Let’s take what we learned and Do Better — Together!
