My father was a court reporter for 55 years and this is one of the most valuable things he taught me…
What would no national and/or state association mean to you?
You would be powerless against all forms of organized competition to take your job and ability to make a living.
Powerless to advance any standards for how the record is kept. Powerless against people who would love nothing more than to minimize the importance of a quality verbatim record and do away with your expense in the system altogether. Powerless to gain standardized certifications and credentials which add value to your career. Powerless to attend relevant and valuable CEUs and stay abreast of the latest technology and best practices. Powerless, powerless, powerless. Not to mention alone in the wilderness, shouting into a howling wind that doesn’t care about you.
It is NCRA and your state associations that bring us together as one and provide the very unified platform, voice, and collective power that protects the record, the public, and the devoted reporters who work their tails off to be the best we can be in fulfilling our noble and respected commitment for all stakeholders. No one cares about the record more than us and nobody does it better.
Powerless, or empowered. It is up to each individual to decide. Anyone who chooses powerless can expect the worst. Join and support NCRA and your state associations. We are a family and we are timeless.
Remembering the late great Jim Bouley, RDR, FAPR.
Thanks, dad.
